FAQs - In-Training Examination (ABSITE)

1) Q. I began a general Surgery residency but am no longer affiliated with any program. Can I still take the In-Training Examination?

A. You cannot take the In-Training Examination as an individual. You must find a residency program that is willing to allow you to take the examination with its residents. The program would be responsible for payment to the ABS for your participation - you cannot make payment to us yourself. Your examination results would be included in the program's results and would be reported only to the program director.

2) Q. I am a resident and need my In-Training Examination results. Can you send me a copy?

A. The ABS does not release results of the In-Training Examination to individual residents. Examination results can only be obtained from your program director.

3) Q. I am a resident in a program. Can you help with interpreting the In-Training results?

A. Your program director can help with the interpretation of results. The specific areas of weakness are identified in the summary results which you receive.

4) Q. What is the date of the next In-Training Examination?

A. Please refer to the
Examination Dates page.

5) Q. Is it possible to take a computer-based examination outside of the United States/Canada?

A. For active duty military personnel stationed overseas, the ABS will make arrangements on a case-by-case basis. Please call the ABS office at 215-568-4000 or send an e-mail to the appropriate
examination coordinator.
